Tax per year for Diesels in the UK
Hi all,
I was wondering: How much tax and insurance do you pay for your 1,9 dCi's in the UK? And what is the current price per litre for Diesel?
Here in Germany driving a Diesel Megane has become quite expensive as everybody is panicking about the respirable dust the Diesels produce.
I got the impression, that in the UK luckily there is (as yet) no such panic.
We pay 200 pounds (€ 316) of tax, I myself pay 220 pounds (€ 338) insurance per year and the Diesel is at about 1 Pound (€ 1,45) per litre if my calculations are right.
Thus driving a diesel car finacially is only attractive from about 30000 km per year.....
What are the amounts you have to pay?
Cheers
Marco

Re: Tax per year for Diesels in the UK
So the 1,5 dCi costs 35 Pounds and the 1,9 dCi costs 3 times that much...why is that?

Re: Tax per year for Diesels in the UK
In the UK the rate of road tax is based on the amount of CO2 the car emits.
The 1.9 emits more than the 1.5 therefore the tax is higher. My car for instance (2.0t RenaultSport) is £220 a year.

quite right cactusbob,my previous car was a 1999 focus tddi (with a cat) which cost about £94 at the time (6 months)
my pal has a 1994 pug 106 1.5 diesel (without a cat) which costs £66 for 6 months

how the f@#k does that work then??
are the government trying to tell me his 106 runs cleaner than the focus

don`t think they`ve got a clue to be honest

Re: Tax per year for Diesels in the UK
well, ok, from your postings I draw the conclusion that the costs are not much different from ours....although as yet we do not have co2-related amounts. the only thing I don't really get is why the 1,5 is two thirds cheaper than the 1,9 - that is a bit harsh I think.
