Windscreen Wipers

Afternoon all,

I have an 04 plated 1.6 estate, on which the windscreen wipers are parked slightly out of position, about two inches too high on the windscreen, so that when they commence their sweep they go down first then up as normal. Not really a problem, just a mild irritation. The wipers complete the normal sweep of the windscreen, and function perfectly normally, they're just stopping in the wrong place. I took this to Renault a few weeks after I first bought the car having not noticed it initially, thinking it would be a simple thing to put right, but they wanted £150 to adjust it as it's apparantly quite a complicated job!

Does this sound right? I also have a 1970 MG at home and to change the park position of the wipers on that is dead simple (helped by having the mechanism exposed right by my right knee I suppose!). Surely it can't be that hard on a modern car??!!

Can anyone offer advice?

Thanks,

Alun

£150 to adjust???

Its not that complicated... I did it myself..

look at where the wiper arm connects to the windscreen, take the cap off and undo the bolt, then adjust.

It sounds simple, but in reality the bolt will be stiff, then the wiper arm itself will most likely be seized onto the mechanism.. patience does it!

Cheers Phil, but it's not quite as simple as that. If you adjust the wipers on the mechanism as suggested it won't change the way the mechanism operates and it will attempt to force the wipers down into the bodywork!

The actual sweep of the wipers is fine, they just stop in the wrong part of the sweep.
