Megane expression will not start ????

Hi we have a megane expression 1.4 and it has been running okay up untill this morning, now it just will not start it turns over but then nought, my wife has been driving it daily and no probs, last night she came home and on route the petrol light came on so my first thought was lack of fuel but after a walk to garage and back still the same problem, i have now run the battery nearly down trying to start the thing, does anyone have any suggestions or advice ? any would be gratefully recieved thanks Nathan
