sounds like i'm sucking air in when i rev the engine

I have 2003 megane 1.6i dynamique, when i rev the engine it sounds like it's sucking in air, have taken off the plastic engine cover and located the source,looks like a sensor or something like that on top of the engine. demented!!!!!! the performanceis definately affected.Is this common and how do i fix it.
