Regenerate Soot Filter Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all im new to this forum and have found it in the hope that you can help me on the day when i have advertised my Renault Megane 1.9dci 2005 05 Estate forn sale. My dashboard has just given me a unpleasent surprise by telling me that regenerate soot filter required ive never heard of this can anyone help. The car overall is in excellent condition and is curently on just over 48000 miles it was last serviced in January this year. If you require any more information please ask.

All responses will be greatly appreciated.

I believe you must be talking about the FAP this will under normal driving regenerate itself once the exhaust system gets hot enough, if the warning lamp comes on take it for a good spin, looking on other threads a drive at 50Mph (80Kph) of faster for at least 20 mins or until warning lamp goes out should do the trick. see link below for thread of same kind of nature.

FAPS are good as long as the car is used for for fairly long journeys every so often, short innner city type driving does not suit this set up, good job i have a derv without the FAP.

Thanks for the response i havnt been using it recently as much as i used to due to owning a company van and driving that midweek i took your advice and took the car for a spin and after about 15 miles on the motorway the error message went. So a massive thanks as i was panicking as i have someone coming on to hopefully buy me car tomorrow.

I panicked first time it happened to me too.

Now I almost look forward to it happening as it is a good excuse to rip along the A23 for a few miles.

Hi ,i got this message too. I have a megane cc, thing is i live on a small island and there is nowhere to drive for 20min constant!! Will revving up the engine while driving nomally do it?

drove around at high revs and the message left in about 10min
