Sigh... Another diary of woe... Help...

Postby rich_n_em » Thu May 15, 2008 8:35 am

Hi all, first post, so be gentle!

I've had sports cars for some years now, but seeing as I'm getting married in a few months time I figured it's time I should sell up and get something sensible. So I advertised my car and some nice chap with an 04 16vvt Megane, having never driven a Renault before I thought I'd go and see him.

Car looked in good shape, full Renault Service History, test drive was perfect, nothing obvious I could see on the drive wrong apart a very slight gringing noise from the steering column wyhich I dismissed as something minor.

The deal was done, I had a nice lump of cash to throw in the bank and a lovely Megane on the drive, all smiles...

Day 1 - Airbag warning light came on, popped it into Dealership, faulty rotary swtich - £180
Day 2 - In having rotary switch fixed
Day 3 - Problems with key not beinng recognised, dealer again, faulty Mag Reader
Day 4 - Mag Reader fitted, same fault, new key required £100
Day 5 - Home and happy
Day 6 - problem with cold start, engine rattling and stalling - into Dealer to be looked at
Day 7 - In Dealer being diagnosed - Dephaser pulley fault £520 (20% contribution from Renault)
Day 8 - Dephaser being fitted
Day 9 - Toady, car collected - driven home and having problems already!

:cry

I've tried to plug in my Sat Nav, and it won't charge it, it won't even power it on - fair enough, fuse is gone or something, but no, the cigarette lighter works fine!

Any ideas anyone, I can't let the fiancee out of the house without Sat Nav, she has the directional sense of a blind zombie!

As well as that, I have a very odd problem - one difficualt to describe so bear with me! Basically, warm or cold, if the car is in first gear and I accelerate from standing, when I completely lift up the clutch the car will hesitate and "jolt" then pick up and drive perfectly, now it doesn't do it in any other gear (effectively rulling out the clutch) and I've had the Dephaser replaced, anyone have any ider what it could be??

I'm tearing my hair out, as I've meant to have got this car to save me money and I've spent nealy a grand already and I'm still having problems!

Thanks for reading!!

Personally i'd call off the wedding and go back to a sports car, it could be cheaper. :D

Does seem that way, lol!! (hope the future wife don't read this!)

lol,

Minor update anyway, tried a TomTom in the car and it works perfectly, and tried my SatNav in several other cars and it works perfectly, so it's just that my specific Sat Nav don#t work with the Renault, kinda sums up my luck!!

Still just the problem with the jolting/hesitation in first, no ideas?

From both personal experience & what I've read on this forum, I'd have to say that the 1.6VVT engine is very prone to the
hestitation on pulling away that you describe. I really feel that Renault's fly by wire system could benefit from some modifications. The pulling away performance on our 1.6 was improved however, after the dealer "re-programmed" the injection system as part of an official Renault instruction.(Ours is an '03)
More recently, the idling became slightly erratic & the hesitation was making the car prone to stalling. After reading this forum, I decided to give the throttle body a clean.
Following the cleaning operation, my wife declared that the car was now running better than it ever had (she's put nearly 50k miles on the clock) - and all at no cost!
Hope this helps. . . . . . .

I'll give that a try, thanks...

Don't have any eratic idle, nor flat spots when accelerating, nor stalling really - it's just like a "hiccup" just past the biting point in first.

Can't hurt to clean the TGB though...
