Loss of Power

Postby MrVRS » Sun Apr 27, 2008 9:42 pm

Hello all
Got a problem with the car losing power
But first a Bit about the car
Megane 1.5Dci 53 plate
51000 miles
5 door
Dynamique
the problem is that regardless of what gear the car is in or speed it is doing ,as soon as it hits 2000rpm a red warning light STOP comes on and a yellow display check injection .We have had it on a diagnostics computer which gives 2 faults
code 001
df053 Rail pressure Regulation function
code 002
dfoo8 Pedal Potentiometer circuit track 1
The person who did the checks ,says it is not straight forward sorting this and could involve changing loads of parts to fix the problem :-(
anybody any ideas thanks in advance

Bumping My own post
Anyone on the forums had any experience with the 2 problems in the above post and if so how big a job to fix ,also which would be the best to tackle first in case one is causing the other ,Thanks Paul

See the manual pointed at in my message in Links. It is in French though.

Why isn't it straightforward? Check wires/connectors first. Pedal Potentiometer is simple. Then comes the pump. Again, wires, then checking the fuel filter for metal shavings, then somehow they check high pressure, the sensor and regulator. All disturbed pipes must be replaced and Clip computer may be needed. I can't remember all details -- read the manual. Checking pressure is supposed to take about 0.5h and refitting the whole pump -- 3.5h. There may be some other faults displaying themselves with this fault code. A professional must be able to diagnose them.

If metal shavings are found, then there is a chance of contamination of the whole fuel system, which means replacement of the ramp and all injectors in addition to the pump. It is expensive. Let's hope it is the sensor or a wire...

Good luck.

Finally sorted, checked and dismantled the Erg valve full of carbon ,made no diff :banghead ,then removed the flow and return pipes from the pump and noticed not much flow,in the end it turned out to be a rather big clump of debris restricting the flow just before the squeeze fuel bladder pump setup ,replaced that and put a new fuel filter on ,now running like a good un

What sort of debris was it? More of it can still be in the system.

Some sort of bacteria can breed in diesel, especially if biodiesel or straight cooking oil is added. The same stuff may also come from a dirty pump. There exist bactericide additives for this matter. Where does your fuel come from?

We fill up at sainsburys or bp ,but got to remember we only got this car at the end of march this year and the problem was present more or less straight away ,so it is possible that the previous keeper ran it on something else

Update
Now getting on for 5 weeks since I last posted , and the car is running like a good un,It averages about 58 miles to the gallon and I never thought I'd say it , is quite pleasant to drive
I am well impressed with the amount of kit in these cars and feel the only let down for me personally is the feel and quality of the interior plastics
Will keep bobbing back to say hello ;-)
