Indicators not working

I know Im on the wrong site but had no joy on the Scenic site.Just brought my first Scenic 2002 1.6 all was fine until the indicators stopped working, I noticed that a cable that used to go to a tow bar was trailing on the ground in the wet so I assumed it must have blown a fuse, but they are all OK, I have been told it may have blown a electrical unit that can cost around £350 to £400, I hope this is not the case, the hazard lights also don't work. Any ideas/info appreciated. Many thanks Rob.
