Starting Problems

Postby s_barker_1984 » Sun Apr 06, 2008 8:40 pm

Hi all,
I have had my car for just under 1yr and have started to have a really annoying problem. I have a 53 Plate 1.4 16v Dynamique and in the last 5-6 months these problems have started. As soon as I depress the clutch or brake and press the start button, the car starts but then just dies! It seems like it is struggling to find enough revs to stay on. It is ok once I have moved off and started driving after helping it with the accelerator.
I have a friend who works for Renault and he plugged the Diagnostic Computer into it and it said that there were no problems showing up. He suggested something about the Ignition Coils so I have changed the them but this hasn't solved the problem and I am now becoming extremely frustrated.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Scott

Welcome to the forum.

The throttle body may be in need of a clean or one of the sensors may be playing up. When was the car last serviced?

Thanks,
The car was apparently serviced and stamped by the shoddy independent dealer I brought it from last year. This was only just over 5000 miles ago but could seriously doubt this was true.

Hi,
It is after whenever the engine is turned off. If i start it first thing in the morning it does it but if i've been driving for an hour and then turned it off and back on it will do it again and again until I help it with the accelerator.
There aren't any running problems, it actually drives like a dream once its up and running.

apparently its def worth having throttle body checked....and cleaned...this wont show up on diagnostic...then TDC sensor and coolant sensor- but the fact its when its cold as opposed to mine which had probs when hot might suggest something else...its an expensive process!!!..it might just be worth having adiagnostic check done to save money in the long run...

No it does happen when its warm too, whenever the engine is turned off and then back on. Iv had the diagnostic check by my friend but nothing came up so we replaced the Ignition Coils and it was still happening so I'm back to square one.
How much does it cost for Renault to clean the throttle body and sensor? Because my friend can't do it for a couple of weeks.
Thanks

when i checked with renault it was about an hour and a half labour plus a tenner for gaskets....about £170 in total...ive had the TDC and coolant sensor changed and its improved it....but wasnt gonna stretch to this as well...if you can get a mate to do it id wait!!!...ut each dealer is different so it might be worth getting a quote....

Ok thanks for your help mate, its appreciated.
I would've tried to clean the two bits myself but I've looked at them french diagrams on your thread and it confused me just looking at them. My mate who is the Renault mechanic reckons it's definitely just these two minor problems that are causing the problem anyway because nothing is showing up on diagnostics.
