when changing a headlight bulb, i found it was a lot easier getting to the retaining clip if you pop the bonnet and remove the small plastic cover above the headlight.

I would concur with that. Just out of interest the offside bulb is harder to do than the nearside as the plastic door in the wing is much smaller.

I was watching fifth gear the other day and they made a major song and dance about changing a light bulb in a megane 2!
When one of mine needed changing i couldnt be bothered going to the hassle of taking off wheels etc so i took it to halfords and they fitted it in about 2 mins, without taking any wheels off or anything!

Just changed a bulb for the second time. First took me 30 min, now it was under 2 min.
