Headlight bulb retaining spring clip?

Postby Don » Fri Mar 07, 2008 7:16 am

Had a bulb replaced by Renault (passenger size, 2006 facelift model). Noticed that it was aimed wrong and when I went in to have a look around I can feel there is NO RETAINING SPRING CLIP holding the bulb in place. Question is should there be one, or does the facelift do without a spring clip?

Hi Don

Your bulb was replaced by a Renault dealer? If the clip has fallen off as Ray suggested the dealer should be shot!!

Replaced one myself, and when the clip is properly in place there is no way it can undo itself. Have a rant at them and get them to do it properly! :)

Hi all, I've just attempted to change the passenger side headlamp on my 05 Megane. Unfortunately the retaining clip has come off completely. Does anyone know how this can be put back in place or is an expensive trip to the dealer likely? Cheers.

Correct ! The bulb is held in place by two little pieces of metal that keep the metal base of the bulb under pressure so it won't pop out. Looks cheap, but i'ts working fine...

It is working fine until you start turning the bulb to fit correctly into the opening. :) Main reason why I have HID's in my projectors (apart from rather huge hands).

Turning the bulb? Just position the bulb in the right position, then push it in. No need to turn it.

If I could see anything, I wouldn't have any problems. The biggest problem is the size of my hands and the fact that I can't see a thing when I insert my arm through the wheel arch. I have no idea what position the bulb between my two fingers is in and whether it's in the right position. I know that I should just push it in, but you still need to get lucky to turn it the right way.

Removing the bumper is a 15 minute job. I do it for fun when I change indicator bulbs. :)

And putting it back again without snapping some plastic takes practice!

Yup. It's a no go if it's cold outside. You cannot do the part under front wings without first studying what goes where.
