Hi, im Carl, im 16 and im from Northern Ireland.

I am interested in a 2000 renault megane 1.6 16v sport alize. I know this isn't a megane 2 but i hoped you could still offer me some help. The car has covered 65000 miles and i can get it for 1650 cash. The body is immaculate but there is no service history unfortunatly.

My dad went to see the megane properly tonight, but when he revved it the gear lever moved substantially and it sounds quite clicky under the bonnet when at tick over.

I just wanted to ask is this clicky noise normal for these engines?

Also what could be causing the movment in gear lever? My dad suggested an engine mounting has become loose.

I appreciated your patients as i am a new member and thankyou for all your replies.

Cheers

dunno about the clicking but if its coming from the cambelt area walk away. the gear stick will be either the gearbox mount or the rear engine mount.

Cheers for the reply.

The noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine and i just regarded it as normal but my dad didn't seem to agree.

I have priced an engine mount and these come in at around 28.00. Does any body have an idea of how much they may cost to replace?

Thankyou again for the reply.

Cheers

you can change them yourself easy enough mate. If the noise is coming from the top end then honestly walk away and look for another. if the belt snaps it writes off the engine and the repair bill would be more than the car is worth!

You could try posing the same question on this site:

There will be many knowledgable owners on this site who could possibly offer greater insight on the Mk 1 Megane's foibles.
