Panaramic sunroof

Postby KIB » Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:29 pm

I have an 05 1.5dci megane with a panaramic sunroof.

When traveling at 70ish I get alot of wind noise from the sunroof which drives you crackers, sometimes if its a windy day the noise starts at slower speeds.
Has anyone had this problem amd if so what was the cure?
Are they adjustable in anyway?

:-(

I believe a lot of owners had this problem. particulary on older models and a few 05/55's.

Renault has fixed a few of them under warranty.. but most seems to live iwth the problem i think... someone with a sunroof will post i'm sure.

I thought about a wind deflector. Does anyone have one fitted to a panaramic?

:?

I get some creaking in hot weather (> 30 degrees C), and a little rattle occasionally from the sun blind when closed.

I've put it down to standard Renault rattles, not terribly annoying but it does seem incurable!

Mine rattles as well, but only really notice it when I was going slow. I usually just ignore it with the use of music.

Mine rattles like you wouldn't believe have spoken to renault who tighten'd and lubed it but made no difference, when it rattles if you open and close the sunroof it goes away....at least for a little while....sigh

am hoping to but some decent ice in there soon!

When I had a rattling roof, I just did up the torx on either side a bit tighter and used silicone lubricant on the rails and it has never really bothered me since?

I had loads of wind noise and rattles from mine. Thick grease on the runners helps the rattles for a while and lubing the rubbers helps stop creaking noises. The wind noise is mainly due to the alignment of the glass relative to the front seal. This is largely dictated by how they bedded the frame down in the factory - if they used too much bedding goo the fame is too high and it'll always make wind noise as there is no real adjustment. The one thing that helped mine was lifting the front rubber by putting a strip of soft plastic underneath it. Without that the seal went below the glass as the roof closed up to it but with it the seal stayed in front of the glass leading edge (which is how it should be if the frame is at the correct height!) Whatever you do be very carefull with the glass as they can shatter very easily!
At the end of the day... ..it gets dark

I've heard Renault recommend the rubber seal be cleaned regularly - does anyone know if they mean a wipe with a cloth, or applying some sort of chemical? Not sure what to try, don't want to initiate new creaks and squeaks!

Those torx need a star shaped key of some sort - anyone know where to get one?

Take the car to a motor factors / tool shop. You can get either screwdriver style ones, or a complete socket style set (expensive). I just asked my local place if I could try one or two different sizes in their car park and then bought the one that fitted. T20 and T27 are common small sizes (wheel arch / glovebox etc).

Torx are available with anti-tamper heads. Check to see whether there is a raised circle in the centre of the screw. These are mostly only ever fitted to consumer type products such as microwaves and hard drives. The anti-tamper screwdrivers work with regular heads in any case.

Haynes don't specify sizes, but you might have some luck with the online manuals in the links section - I haven't checked.

Hi - the rattle is caused by crap design! Remove the two torx studs that hold the rear sunroof brackets on to the sliders - this is where the wear occurs that causes the rattles - I have successfully used non setting bathroom sealant - the clear silicone stuff - smeared around this bracket and the actual Torx headed stud - then reassmble. Not a rattle to be heard! It may have to be repeated every so often - but thats a small price to pay for silence.
