Ignition coil

Postby IR621392 » Sat Feb 23, 2008 6:18 pm

Over the last day I have had loss of power in engine between gear changes and today the engine light came on for a few minutes then went out again. I recently had my first coil replacement and I am aware of 3 more original ones on the car. I have done 14000 miles and the car is 3 years old. Is this new problem another of the coils on the way out and would it be stupid phoning AA before I lose power completely.

You can get a full set of sagem (standard ones) or beru which are better more reliable from transit parts uk tel 01268 574425 they should sort you out. They do have a shop on ebay but you can buy direct from them :-)

Do all you Megane owners out there keep spare ignition coils?? Do they malfunction often?. I got over 13000 miles driving on my car before the first one blew, but hence the second one blew less that 1000 miles later.

from what i understand Megane ignition coils manufactured upto 2004 had a design fault and could fail anytime. The AA/RAC always kept a good stock in their vans.
They actually work as a pair and should be changed in pairs, so not suprised you had one go, then shortly after another.
I think the pairing is the outside 2, and the inside 2.

These days they are more reliable (or as reliable as any pencil coil for any car is), so a new set should last along time, ive still got 2 originals after 4 yrs.
If one does fail, always change the pair, if not the full set.

I replaced the coil in my 2003 1.6 vvt megane 2 and the engine is now running on all cylinders again.

The engine management light is not flashing any more and car driving perfectly, but the engine management light is now on all the time rather than flashing, anyone have any ideas how do I get it to go out?
