Gear lever numbers wearing off

Hello,

The numbers on the grear lever are wearing off. Anyone know what I can do about it? It seems a sort of rubbery coating - not very durable.

I have read about other owners having this problem. Any solution?

You need a new knob!

Doubt it will be covered by the warranty though?

My tip - don't wear jewellery. I've noticed that when I wear a ring, it wears the numbers off. Same thing happened to my friend in her Megane after she got engaged!

So the moral of this tale is once you get engaged don't let a ring near your knob.

You can replace just the cap, but I only managed to source one from France. You simply put a wide screwdriver into the back of it and lever out the old one and push in the new one.

Thanks for the comments. I shall be in France for Easter so I shall go into a Renault garage and try and get a new knob.

Poor design though - you wonder how much development time is spent by manufaturers. My knob was perfect until a mechanic took the car for a test drive...

my knob is shiney and i polish it, waiting for the wife to rip it off

nooo, my 57 plater has a knob which is recessed not printed so it wont rub off, unlike the wifes which will rub off

Are the new recessed knobs interchangeable with the old knobs?

it looks exactly the same size so i dont see why not, my recessed one is on a DCi six gearbox, have not had chance to see if they have recessed the 5 gear ones, and the gearstick looks the same aswell, ive not told the missus yet she is in a hump as my interior is better then hers.............

Yes. A mate just changed the old one for a new recessed one on his 6-speeder, and I'm currently waiting for one to arrive from France.

270213858992 is for a black 5 speed insert on ebay.
190201259441 is for a silver 5 speed insert

cant find any others though for renault, or 6 speed ones but you should be able to fit one from another lift up for reverse car
