Its a 1.4 16v megane 2004. I was driving home from blackpool last night and soon as i arrive at the top of my street the dreaded light comes on!!!!!!!
this morning i started the engine up light comes on and the engine is chuddering. just to clear up is it the coils would you all presume??
And would it have anything to do with an oil change that i had last week?

It could be a coil but it could also be a spark plug or a dirty/knackered TDC sensor. Speak with your local Renault dealer to see if Renault could contribute to the cost of repair if the coils have failed being as you are only just out of warranty.

Check with Renault Customer Service - One of ours went on a pre-registered 05 megane - Warranty ran out in June. We were told by someone who works at Peugeot (apparently these had similar problems) that the warranty had been extended on the ignition coils. What should have been a £468 dealer replacement of all four coils we got for free.

unbelievable !! 4 coils cost under £90 which you can fit yourself in 10mins, what are Renault doing for the other £378 !!!
pencil coils are a common failure on EVERY make/model that has them...it's not an issue specific to renaults.
I bet the dealers are very happy that Renault can't make a decent car if they get away with charging that sort of cash.
