Computer Keeps Reseting Itself...

Postby GreyMeg » Mon Jan 28, 2008 11:16 am

Hi People, does anyone know if there is a problem with the dash computers, mine keeps resting itself every morning, when i start the engine if the fuel gauge needle rises before it actually starts it will drop back and the computer will zero, if it stays down until it has started the computer will be ok?? The mileage and the service due is unaffected just the trips, MPG, ave. MPH and Range seem to be affected

Anyone experienced this or know what could be wrong?

any help appreciated :-)

computer reset

Postby Phil and Liz » Wed Jan 30, 2008 8:15 am

My 05 does it intermitently, at first I thought it was the wife hitting thereset button in error but now it's hapened to me I know she didn't.

Can't remember seeing it actually do what you describe though, never paid that much attention so long as it goes

Hi.
I had same problem and finally dealer found reason for that reseting
problem.
TADAA!! Too small/weak battery. If voltage goes too low when you start
engine, dashcomp. resets. That was reason in my case and reseting
happened when outside temperature was near 0 and engine cold.
Never in summertime.
I have lots of new parts in my car which dealer changed in my Meg
while they wondered what coused dashcomp. reseting....

Hope this helps!

That explains it, where we live the temp has been -1 to -7 off and on for the last few months

Yup. I would've said the same myself if I'd seen this earlier. Had it happen to me with other cars...

sorry to rain on your parade but just went out to fill up the car (only time I get to drive it except at weekends) and the trip computer has reset itself.

The trip mileage shows as 2.9 miles which means it has reset itself as my wife neared home after a journey of 17 miles, so engine hot, temp above freezing.

Back to the drawing board............................

Battery £104 (being a Diesel & 6 Speed?) and they told me they need to fit it (£40) as they need to reset the windows, clock & Radio....I needed it sorted so had no choice really :mad

I experienced the same thing this winter couple of times.. It just resets in the first morning start. It's very cold, around -10C, so my battery is obviously at very low level :banghead

Mine being a diesel and 6speed too i had to pay i think approx £50 for new battery it took about half hour to fit it(20mins of that getting old one out!!). I then put in radio code and away i went. No re setting windows or anything, if i were you i'd get back there and query that. As Andywills says re setting windows involves holding the buttons up for 10 seconds!
