1.5 dci which motor oil to use?intervals?

Postby forpaulius » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:24 pm

wondering which oil to use for my megane 2005 1.5 dci.
since I have no manuals, i dont know wich properties of oil should be?
how much of oil should be filled(in liters)?
what is recomanded interval for changing oil?

which type of oil should be used?(I believe its not a mineral oil, but not sure if semisynthetic, or synthetic)

thanks for any advice, or links :-)

would be nice to find somewhere online the users manual for megane 1.5 dci :-)

You need 4.6ltrs of a fully synthetic oil that meets the spec. 5W40 ACEA B3 B4, or a 0W40 of the same spec will do just as well. Probably better infact as it gets a bit cold in Norway.
:wint

Service intervals in the UK up to late 2005 for Diesels were 18,000 miles/30,000km OR 2years whichever came first.
With the introduction of the new Euro IV engine (late 2005) this was cut to 12,000miles/20,000km OR 1year

My advice would be to use a good quality oil that meets the above specs and change it on a regular basis (6000-9000 miles) depending on what sort of driving you do?

EDIT:
If it's a FAP fitted Diesel then you must only use a fully synthetic 5W30 ACEA C3 Low SAPS oil. Anything else will potentially damage the Diesel particle filter.

Thank you for advice IainMW!!!

I have checked Castrol and BP websites, and found a "recomended" oil for my car, and engine.

BP recomends either Visco 7000 0W40, Visco 7000 Sport 5W50, or Visco 5000 5W40.
Castrol recomends either EDGE Sport 0W-40; EDGE 5W-30; Magnatec 5W-40 C3

Im little confused. I believe it should be a difference between 5W30(from castrol), and 5W50(BP)?

what the user manual says?
but probably its best to take the one in the middle 5W40, as you recomended:)

Please read these two threads. Hopefully this will explain things a little further?

As I said in my orginal post as long as your 1.5dCi is not FAP fitted then the oil you need is 5W40 fully synthetic that meets the ACEA standards of B3 B4 as this is what Renault recommend

EDIT:
Read this as well

hello again,

Just changed the oil. the salesmen recomended for me to use ELF oil, 5w-30. so I did so.

Only not sure how to check if my car does have FAP filter? should I look under car? or it is easier way to recognise it?
