Ok,time to update this thread.Had new cambelt fitted today.

Costings,

cambelt kit (gates o.e.),waterpump,aux.belt,5 litres 'morris' fully synthetic oil, fuel & oil filters =£ 154 inc vat. All from local motor factor.

New o/s top engine mounting & stabilizer bar (fitted as i noticed engine movement on acceleration),£ 101 inc vat.Main dealer supplied.
***NOTE,stabilizer bushes now modified to stop them moving in the metal housing.

Labour from local 'one man w/shop',to fit all above, replace coolant with longlife antifreeze & rotate wheels, inspect brake pads, £190 (no vat).

So seehow easy it is to spend £445 in 1 day,+ lose a days turnover !!!! Still it's cheaper than a snapped belt & bent engine.

regards,martin...

Yes jamsie, 70/72k for change. Don't forget to change the water pump as well at the same time,as change of tension with new belt can often make it leak ,and to change pump means you have to strip out cam belt to get to it !

Is 2010 so give us a hand updating this post :)

Mine is a Sportshatch 2004 1.6 and have only done 40k. As you know the cambelt needs to be changed every 70K or 5 years, so I am one year late and in panic mode  ...

The Kingston Upon Thames dealer is not authorised anymore - they quoted £390+vat excluding the waterpump - Which I think is way too much, specially since they are not authorised dealers anymore...

Europarts has the cambelt kit for around £95 plus £40ish for the water pump. Which leaves me in the need of good mechanic... Do you guys maybe have a name you trust around here?

Just for information, how many hours do you think it will take a garage to replace the water pump and belts?

Would not really like to do it myself due to lack of time, tools and most importantly Talent!
Thanks Nathan for the info, 3 hours is right - yesterday went to a a few garages and a quote for £550! The authorised dealer in Wimbledon wants £430 - which is exactly the same that the ex-authorised dealer wants here in kingston - I would have thought that since they are no longer authorised dealers their prices would be lower??? Anyway...
The Local BOSCH service centre has quoted £308... which sort of works out at £60/hour + parts - the car is going in there next week

I have 40k miles and the car is 6 years old... But the manual suggests 70K miles OR 5 years, that is why I am in panic mode...

I've just been quoted £250 + VAT by a local french car specialist garage. Local dealer quoted £500+. Megan cc is 5 years old next month and has 22,000 on the clock. Also have to get the 5 year service done on it too so the Cambelt change is going to have to wait until later on this year
