Irregular tickover and surges.

1600 dynamique sport, been back to Renault UK on several occaisions. Nothing appears on the diagnostics yet the faults are:-

Idle speed can drop on start up.
Poor starting when cold.
Engine revs up and suges on its own even when warm.

Its had new plugs or whatever they call em now,and Renualt have tinkered with it but it keeps coming back. Mechnics say they can confirm it does strange thing but dont seem to be able to cure it.

Would Renault automatically reprogram the injection computer as some reference has been made to this box of tricks?

Any other ideas ?

Not an uncommon problem with this engine..
Has your dealer tested the operation of the dephaser pulley as this can cause exactly the symptoms you are describing..

They would only reprogram the injection computer if there was a technical note that they could associate with the problem..

Thanks.....it amazes me that a well known fault isnt looked at as the first on their checklist...are they stupid or is it a standing instruction to fob punters off...it must cost them more by having the car back time after time..... We be in touch with Renault UK West London and pass on your expertise . Cheers

for a problem that pretty much affects the whole of the 1.6 range its shocking that it varies from renault dealer to dealer whether they know anything about it

This is a massive London dealership they must know ! Does the owners club make representations to these blockheads and send them feedback?

The MOC does not do that as far as I am aware. You can do it in the form of a letter or you could follow the advise in this link.

Great thanks....should have a prominent place on the owners club website

If Carlsberg were a Renault, it probably wouldnt be the best car in the world. Not with a 1.6 engine anyway!
