Move seats fully forward and console fully back. fold armrests up and pull them off to the side, remove blanking plates below both armrest hinges, undo and remove the screws.
Remove the screws visible at the base, then slide it forward and do the same at the other end. Unclip and remove the side trim pieces. You can then tilt it backwards and undo the two mounting bolts, and undo the wiring plug.

I've just purchased a 56 Grand Scenic to replace my poor written off Megane (didn't have time to order new - can you believe a Mondeo hire car is £500 a month on short term loan!). but it doesn't have the sliding console and would also like to fit one, partly for that accessory socket!

I have a Scenic with a sliding console but the electrics for the console light and accessory lighter do not work but the electric sliding switch does work- Local dealer identify problem quickly on last service so wanted it back another day - So if anyone does find out anything about the electrics -or where the fuses are for it i would love to know!
Ps. I did remove the console before to see if the problem was with the connecter plug underneath and it was simple enough to remove and refit the console.
I( did think of removing the console alltogether and replacing it with some sort of shallow tray as the console gets in the way
