Anyone got a high mileage Megane II?

Postby GoldenWonder » Wed Nov 14, 2007 7:21 pm

Not so much a technical question but a general wondering...

All Megane IIs I see advertised seem to have quite low mileages on them. I never seem to see one with more than about 35,000 on it! I know the car only arrived in 2003 but that is 4 years ago now...

Has anyone taken a Megane II to a high mileage (i.e over 80,000) or do they simply not last long enough?! I took my last car to 140,000 (petrol) and I just can't see my 1.6 Megane lasting to that distance. If so, what sort of extra problems arrive with the higher mileage?

my car has 72,000 miles on it, and was registered in Feb 2004 so its coming up to 4 years old. Within the warranty period it was going wrong in all the common aspects very regularly. As soon as the warranty expired though, it stopped going wrong? Weird I know..

Oh I hope mine goes the same way as yours! The reverse-warranty car could really catch on!

I am in the trade and bought a 53 plate 1.4 Megane last week with 123,000 miles on the clock.

I paid £2200 for it - 1 company owner with Full Renault History.

All I can say is the car shows the miles, its a pain in the ar** !

We buy many high mileage cars and the Renault Meganes are one the worst in my opinion when they reach over 100k

Hope it helps

123,000 miles! Wow - frankly I'm amazed it lasted that long. The way mine has worn the 18,000 does not bode well!

65k ish on mine, wouldnt advise anyone to get a meg, im proper sick of the heap at the min, it seems to be one thing after another. So far in a year ive replaced the turbo, intercooler, glow plugs, key card, rear discs(which are rediculously expensive £180) pretty sure theres something else, may be a few but thats all i can think of at the mo.
And i take really good care of my car, serviced up and doesnt get ragged, or even excellerate hard when the engines not warm.

I certainly wont be buying another renault.

I find the dealers to be absolute a***holes aswell, how a part can cost different prices in different branches beats me.

Wow - theres a huge variation in how Meganes take their mileages. I can't believe its down to servicing routines.

50% of them will be scrap by 100k, 50% will be OK.

It very much depends on the use the car has been put to . The best thing for a car is to rack up a highish mileage quickly on motorways. Stop-start urban driving kills cars.

I bought my 04 53 reg 1.9DCi Dynamique 2 1/2 months ago with 120,000 on the clock and a full renault Service History. Supposedly only done motorway miles.

It drives like a dream and I've already clocked up close to 6,000 more miles on top - Only issue for me has been a dodgy aerial for the Radio.

My father in law has an 07 reg 1.5 DCi and on driving them both you couldnt tell which had done 120k+ and which had done 5k.

When I bought my 03 reg (1.5 dCi), it had 33k on the clock....had all of its services since then and now has 62-63k miles on and its kind of working fine.
When I say kind of, I mean that there are rattly noises and "extra noises" coming from the car but i think that might be because it needs a service.

Apart from that, all is well.....although i am beginning to wish i hadnt entered the world of Renault because its so damned expensive to repair and service!

The joys of motoring I suppose.

I have saw a few on good old ebay  they were ex fleet (they were all white :-P ) 1.9 Diesels with something daft like 160,000 - 170,000MILES yes MILES and that was about 9 month ago!

God help the new buyers

I have a Meg 225 with 40,000 and I cant see it lasting to 80,000 if I am being honest just got a feeling!, my old meg 1.4 53 plate had 65,000 and not a problem when I traded it in :-)
