MEGANE ENGINE CUTTING OUT - CAMSHAFT OR CRANKSHAFT TDC ??

HI

I have read other posts regarding the megane's engine cutting out etc..

I have a 53 reg 1.4 petrol megane and the car starts up ok but the rev's drop and the engine will cut out. Only after a number of attempts at starting the engine will the rev's stabalise then I can drive ok.

There are no engine or warning lights on the dash etc...

Car has done 123,000 miles ( yes )

Now, it seems the most common item is the TDC sensor, but I have been told there are two, a camshaft sensor and a crankshaft sensor!

Which one is it most likely to be? Or do I just tell Renault parts that I need a TDC sensor?

well i got them to replace the TDC sensor on mine(same engine size but 52 plate) and it has helped loads, although when i tried earlier, it did it once(it was 2 degrees outside) but it definatly helped, i just said the TDC sensor, she seemed to know what i mean

You could try cleaning the TDC sensor to see if that makes any difference before buying a new part. You'll find it at the top of the clutch bell housing held in by two bolts. Remove it and wipe any filings or dirt that has accumulated and see if this improves the running.
There are some pipes and hoses that may obscure your view of the sensor but I'm sure I've seen pictures on this forum somewhere that would help you identify it so a search may bring results.
