fuel cap

when i lock the car, should the fuel cap be locked too? cos mine doesnt seem to wanna lock. even when its dead-locked! can anybody help?

Hi Ozzy

Yes it should lock! There is a little pin inside the opening that pops out and locks the flap.

I think it's an electrically operated one - maybe it's faulty or (hopefully) just stuck. Have a look to see if you can free it up.

Ozzy,if you take the offside side carpet out,just behind rear seat locking bracket you will see the bottom of the fuel flap locking mechanism. Now,when you lock/unlock car the pin should retract/pop out of the body of this solenoid.Ethier it's stuck (give it a tap),the wires are loose,or it's knackered.

cheers for the advice guys... jus figured out why it dont lock. its because the little catch plastic catch is broken so it doesnt grip the pointy plastic bit on the actual fuel cap door (as you can see i aint too technical minded!!!) how can i fix it? is there a part i can get?? i'll take a photo wit my mobile in the morning and post it....

right i have taken a photo on my mobile but dont know how to post it up on here? anyone??

anyways the little black clip that holds the fuel cap lid is broken, so anybody can just pull the fuel cap open now!!!! :(
any ideas about how to go abt fixing/replacing it.... costs??

Use the 'Img' tag and then put the URL and then close the 'Img' tag

You've got to upload your photo on the net first.You can use photobucket.com,upload it there and then use your img code in your posting.

can you see the bottom bit of the "backward c" shaped clip has broken hence why the fuel cap wont close... do i have to replace the unit?? how much will it cost roughly?

can you not superglue etc a bit on for it to catch against?

i bet the cap isnt cheap from renault. what about pillaging one from a scrappy?

good shout, but i dont reckon there will be many of this model in my local scrappy.. atleast with the new-style fuel cap no-one can nick my petrol hey!!
