Glow Plugs

I have the infamous "check injection" warning and service light on in my 1.9DCI 53 reg. After reading posts on this one of recommendations is to change the glow plugs. As mine is starting fine, running fine and warning doesn't go when engine is warm is it worth changing them or should i just get it into the garage?

Simple enough question, and common enough, suprised no one has made any suggestions.

However the reason for that maybe that "check injection" covers a multitude of faults and it could be anyone of about 7 sensors on the injection system plus other stuff. Mine gave a turbo pressure sensor fault when diagnosed at Renault.
Pity they fitted 2 more new ones before they checked the wiring plug to the ECU

Changed the glow plugs yesterday and thankfully the warning light has gone out. Rang 3 garages about the light 2 said it could be number of faults and would need to go on computer other one said do not drive the car get it taken to a garage. Glad i never listened to them!!!

Hi, my 03 1.9dci is showing the doomed 'check injection' and 'service' light. However it never goes off even when the car is hot. The car is running fine. Does anyone have any thoughts? The messages in the forum seem to suggest glow plugs but my car hasnt cut out on me or lost power. Today I have a new feature....the central locking system is unlocking and locking itself!! And there was I hoping for a month off having to visit Renault!! She will have to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks all.

I would imagine the light would stay on when the glow plug is buggered as it is no longer making a connection.

They are very very easy to check.

Ensure the engine and ignition is turned off

1.) Take the plastic engine cover off
2.) Look at the engine from the front, you will see 4 things that look like black plastic pencils sticking out. These are spaced out across the front.
3.) Carfully get hold of the plastic pencil and slowly pull towards you, this will pop off and you will now see the glow plug.
4.) Use a volt meter and first check the voltage of your battery and then put the positive lead on the positive terminal on the battery and the other lead onto the top of the glow plug. This should register around the same voltage as your battery.

Do this to all 4 glow plugs. If you need to replace one then you will require a 10mm socket. I had to buy one from a motor factors that was slim enough to fit into the hole. To make them easier to remove, spray some WD40 around the thread and leave it for 15 mins to "soak" in. Slowly work the glowplug, do not force it if it wont come undone as it is a very costly mistake if you snap one off in the head.
You should be able to pick up new plugs for about £7 each. When re-fitting. do not overtighten them. I believe there is a correct torque but I did mine finger tight and then "nipped" it up.

I will put some pics up and a how to when I actually get mine back from the garage.

I'd change the plugs. Mine ran fine started fine but just had the light on permanently. Went off as soon as i changed the plugs.
