Brake servo issues

Hi All.
I have an 04 plate 1.9 Dci, purchased June/ July 06 with approx 11,000 on the clock. it's now up to 54,000 (I know- that's a lot of miles) and went out of warranty July just gone.
I've recently had issues with the brakes slamming on at full pressure, ABS kicking in and the brakes sticking on - all from just touching the brake pedal. My local dealer had the car in last week, and found a bolt loose in the bottom of the servo , so tightened and locktighted it. They roadtested it and all seemed fine. About 15 miles later the problem resurfaced. They now tell me they can hear a funny noise and they THINK it's from the servo, so I need a new one at about £400, plus labour.
Does anyone have any similar experiences/ advice?
Thanks for reading!
