Rattle on Idle

Hi, has anybody had a problem with a rattling noise (sounds like from the gearbox) when the engine is idling? I have a DCI 1.5 106 which has done 16600miles and is 2 years old next month. I have only noticed the sound recently. The noise goes when the engine is lifted just off idle and tends to be more audible when parked up an incline.
I also have a problem with a viberation through the throttle and wonder whether the two problems could be connected. The local dealer has fitted a new engine mount and now says all is well.
Thanks

I think I've said before that mine has had problems with vibrations at idle
It was in the garage this week to have the flywheel changed as this is what they suspected was wrong with it.
To cut a very long story short the garage have held off changing the flywheel on Renault's advice but did change all the engine mountings and re-position the engine on it's new mounts.
It is much better but not yet cured. Renault technical have said that they will get involved if I'm still not happy (which I'm not really)
One of the symptoms of a faulty flywheel is a rattling noise at idle. I'm not saying this is your problem but it could be? You need to get the garage to check it out again, and if you are not happy go to another Renault dealership!
We are off to Scotland this morning for the week so I'll see if the vibes comes back as bad as they were?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Do you know if the 1.5 Dci 106 has a dual mass flywheel? The viberation throught the throttle now seems to be coming through the clutch pedal slightly -not always when the rattle is evident. Does your engine rattle all the time on idle? Mine seems to worse on ocassions.
Thanks

Another source of rattling could be the exhaust heat shield. If you've been through any big puddles at speed it may need bending back into shape.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The exhaust has been checked by the dealer along with everything else they can think of. In fact they are now saying its normal for a Dci 1.5 106 to rattle on idle (it sounds like a gear rattling), but on ocassions I can hear it even with the radio on. I am beginning to wonder whether the rattle is connected to the buzzing viberation I am getting through the throttle pedal - which the dealer is also saying the can't feel despite it making my foot sore and friends have noticed it when I lent them the car. I am not sure what to do now, take it to another dealer or kick up stink at the dealer I have been using and insist they get Renault involved. Have you had any expierence with Renault Dealers or Renault UK in getting awkward issues resolved? The car has gone from a pleasure to drive to horrible and near impossible to drive any further than about 10 miles.
I am at my wits end with the car now and beginning to feel I will have to get rid of it earlier than I wanted to. It's only 23 months old, with 17000 miles. The car was alright until it went in for service and had a leak off pipe and starter repalced under warranty.
Thanks again.

Normal it is most definitely NOT...
Has the drivers side top engine mount been replaced / checked already?

Well, I know you were discussing this months ago but I have come across it and just have to comment....
I have a megane convertible 04 1.6 VVT, It has done about 50k now, about a year ago I started to get a strange noise when I was in first gear, the best way to describe it was like being cranked up on a rollercoaster, you know the sound I mean? That click click click etc! Well the harder I accelerated the louder and faster the noise went, I just thought I'd ignore it and it would go away! How wrong could I be...?
Then I started to get that rattling noise like your describing, when I was sat idle but then after a few months it crept in to all the time, then when I have the music low you can always hear it, yet the really loud noise is still only in 1st.
So I said to my partner that I wanted to get rid of it as we have just had a baby, we have been searching for a gearbox in a breakers for months as I am not paying full wack to send it back to the finance company! So we finally found one down in Manchester, my partner went to get collect it but before he could fit it I spat the diff out the box!!
I then tried moving it and it wasn't happening..it was just making a really loud banging noise and then if you really pushed it it started smoking!!!! Aghhh! So now my partner is on trying to get the gearbox out, but it won't budge! He has the clutch out already but its being a pain in the bum!
If anyone has any ideas they would be much appreciated!!! thanks!
