I have removed and cleaned the tdc sensor, I have service and toxic fumes warning lights on,assuming cleaning the sensor has sorted the problem would these warning lights automatically reset or would this have to be done by dealer? Any help appreciated.

it should reset itself, although i don't know about the facelift model (if yours is one of those). model & age would be useful.
The "toxic fumes" message can also be caused by failing coils, that might be your problem rather than TDC sensor ?

Thanks for the advice there is plenty of sound information here! Mine is a 54 plate(out of warranty 3 weeks ago) 1.6. Have already had 2 ignition coils in last 6 months and this weekend engine kept stalling when clutch depressed and made drivin home from work today a nitemare! The AA man did his diagnostic and said the camshaft sensor had flagged up.I went to dealer on way home bought one of these for £38 fitted it which was easy apart from bolt being flippin hot! so now its fingers and everything else crossed!!

Mine was starting ok but cutting out whenever clutch was depressed. Changed camshaft sensor like I said and has been fine since. I shouldn't have said that should I?!

Anybody know why my car starts fine then cuts out after 10 seconds but when this happens there is a noise like a modem coming from the injection system (silver box righthand side of engine on the airline) I'm not sure if it made this noise before ?
