Music Volume

Postby shakespeare » Fri Sep 28, 2007 1:37 pm

Can anyone tell me why the stereo in my 53 Megane sometimes - after a while of playing gradually turns the volume down and won't let me turn it up?.
After a while I can eventually turn it back up again but why does this happen?

Possibly the steering column volume button (turn - down one) is sticking?

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

The stereo unit is crappy. It overheats after long periods of continuous playback at high volumes.

The screen on the dash displays 'HI TEMP' and the volume gradually goes down.

Solution: replace with an aftermarket unit.

Which volume level are we talking about before this happens?

If I remember correctly having the volume set to 19-21 for long periods of time overheats the unit...

Keep in mind that the weather here in Greece is generally warm (this summer was especially hot, i saw temps in the neighbourhood of 45-47 degrees while sitting in traffic in Athens  )

Silencer51, everyone have not 45-47 degrees, I think.
On specific condition, all HUs(Renault, Alpine, ...) will be overheated :-)

BTW. My original HU was never overheated yet.

does anyone else find that when they turn their volume down to "0" you can still hear it?

i dont know whether thats because i am using the 6 CD changer?

occasionally it has actually been okay and turned down entirely at "0"

strange?

Has all of this got anything to do with the volume/speed setting on the radio?

Read your manual for a full explanation of how to set this.

Keep in mind that I'm referring to the basic CD/Radio combo unit made by VDO.

It really is a piece of sh*t, its got a pathetic output of 4x15W or 4x20W RMS if I remember correctly.

At the exact same conditions (i.e. extreme environmental heat) my Alpine (4x50W) head unit performs perfectly... ;)

I had the same problem in the past and was told it was control on steering at fault. Renault replaced it and it fixed the problem.
Recently though when i use steering wheel control to change volume it skips to cd/changer, mw/fm instead.
