Replacement Rear Discs/pads

Postby Gordon » Tue Sep 18, 2007 9:58 am

Hello
Have had 36K service on my '53 Auto Megane Dynamique last Feb @ 30K and at the time was told I had 40% left on the rear pads - they never mentioned any scoring.
Apart from the usual Meagane squeal, I have just experienced a grinding noise (not squeal) only when reversing and applying the brakes.
Took it into my new local dealer as we are now living in Wigan and whilst they were fitting a new window relay they investigated and said that the discs were scored quite badly and i would need new disc/pads.
Why is it that they are ok going forward, but grind when braking in reverse?
Also, when they said that I was covered for the switch problem under my extended warranty which end this month, the AA warranty would not cover me for the disc work and dealer quotes about £260 for the job!
Do you thing I could get the work done by a reputable brake specialist for a lot less than this in the Wigan area. Any advice pleae.
Thanks everyone
Gordon

My brakes make a bit of a grinding noise when going backwards, but the discs are not scored and the pads are fine.
Arnold Clarke is a swearword on hear! Unfortunately the franchise has somewhat of a reputation about it and I don't think the Wigan branch is any exception?
You could always get an independant garage to check them out for a second opinion, there is one near the Superbowl in Wigan that has a good rep, my old boss always took his cars their.

A & C Motors
Unit 5, Leeds St Ind Est, Miry Lane, Wigan, Lancashire WN3 4BT

From Adsa drive along the oneway system over Seven stars bridge into Wigan, there is a left turn between the Honda dealer and the Ford dealer, take this andthen turn right into the Superbowl carpark and it's just round the other side of building (if memory serves me?)

Rear discs are not an uncommon problem on Meganes unfortunately. There have been a number of post about them on the forum, try searching.

Rear Brake Pads/Discs

Postby Jonno59 » Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:33 pm

Hi Gordon, Just had my rear discs and pads replaced by kwik fit in Leigh, cost £204, Arnold Clark in Warrington told me I had no problems with wear when last in, then last week grinding noise at low speed going forward though not reverse. Kwik fit showed me the discs and they were well scored, also had the front pads done there a few weeks ago £93 after AC quoted me about £120 minimum.

Gordon

Did you take it to A&C Motors in the end?

It sent you a private message a while ago, have you checked your messages as it's still in my outbox?
