Steering Not Locked?

Hi all

Driving home this evening, doing a steady 40 mph on one of our local (with many traffic cameras) A roads. My service light came on along with the message "steering not locked" on the display.

I remember thinking in a split second "god - I hope it don't lock now!!!).

The message and the service light went out after about 20 seconds and didn't come on again. Car was serviced 3 weeks ago and this is the first time I have seen this, (hope it will be the last!)

Anyone seen this before? If not - should I book it in for diagnosis at the dealer?

Don't know if I should be worried or not - any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards to all

Rob

you get this message if you switch off the car, don't remove the keycard, and wait for 20mins (or might be a hour ?).
It seems the message is related to when all the electrics switch themselves off to save the battery.
normally the electronic steering would lock, but as youve got the keycard still in the slot, it says "Steering not locked" at that time.

can't shed any light why you'd get this whilst driving. hope it's just a blip.

I had the same message every time I turned the engine off, but at the same time had the notorious air bag indicator light problem. Once I'd checked my connectors under the seat for the airbag links, everything worked fine including the steering lock.

i agree with what rob said, a wire under your seat may be lose, sort that out and everything should be fine, I had the same problem with mine
