1.6 VVT Problems

Postby Jimbo86 » Sun Jul 08, 2007 8:30 pm

Not my Megane, but my mates (Shockman) has a problem with his car at the moment.

The 'Toxic fume filter system warning light' is flashing, he slows down below 50mph and it goes out but when speeding back up, comes on again flashing. Also does it with various other speeds.

Another problem, linked to the light, it feels like its about to stall at around 20mph and other speeds.

Been reading through the forums, and could it be the Dephaser Pulley, TDC sensor or the coil pack???

Any help from you guys would be fantastic :)

Could be a coil on it's way out. The TDC sensor can cause odd running problems as well

Another problem, linked to the light, it feels like its about to stall at around 20mph and other speeds

This could be a symptom of a failed Dephaser pulley? Does it feel if it's going to stall when setting off from standstill?
Does it sound like a bag of spanners when starting and is the fuel consumption bad?

A bit more history on the car would be helpful, age, mileage, service history etc...

its a 2004 model 1.6 16v dynamique, with just over 30K on the clock, was on 24K when i bought it just over 2 months ago.

i have to keep the revs up quite high when pulling away as there is severe juddering when idling on its own. also, if i change gear too soon, normally it would be okay, but it starts to shudder, again feeling that its about to stall.

can put my foot down on the accelerator when going onto a slip road going onto the motorway, am lucky if i can reach 50mph before hitting the motorway

This sounds like a one or more coils has gone to me, if it's not ticking over correctly.

You can buy good ones from eBay much cheaper than renault ones. But I would advise you to get this checked out by a reputable garage first
