Dent in 17" alloy - repair/replace?

Hi all
Drove over a hole in the road (full of water!!) and have damaged the inside of the front alloy wheel. There is a dent about 4"long and it has broken the seal between the wheel and tyre resulting in a slow puncture. I've rang a couple of alloy wheel specialists with no joy. Anyone know if this can be repaired or the approx cost of a replacement 17" nervasport? (Can u buy just one?)

Hi there camel, just get a rubber hammer and knock it bak into shape. Its worth a try before you buy a new wheel.

sounds to me like the same problem I had when I went through a pothole. The tyre went down straight away it was that bent, so I had to buy a new alloy and tyre, alloy from dealer, all in cost about £200, think the alloy alone was £110.
I was told the alloy was irrepairable. Might be the same case for yours, wouldn't be worth risking getting it fixed incase the alloy got damaged again, could cause a bad accident.

First thing to do is take a photo of the hole with something in it as a size comparsion. Then get 3 quotes from garages for the repair/replacement. Send these to your local council highways department as they are responsible for the maintainance of the road, don't let them fob you off. They should pay all the costs of repair/replacement, job done.

I agree with Becks. This happened to me a few years ago in my Clio. I hit a pot hole full of water that was 35cm deep!!!
I wrecked my tyre, dented the wheel (which was a steel rim) with a big V shape, and knocked all the front suspension geometry out.
Total cost £380.00
I went back with long ruler and took photo's of the offending hole, showing how deep and wide it was. I then took photo's of the damage to the car and then sent them to local council highways department with a copy of the garages report.
It took a while but I got my money back.
