I was reading a post earlier about a squeeling noise and it turns out that it was the bonnet was open and that the alarm was informing them when they locked the car.

So I was just wondering if my car has an alarm? Maybe it is switched off? I have had a quick look at the spec of my car on a website and it has a tick in the box for my Megane ( 2005 Dynamique 3dr 1.5dci).

Can anyone shed anymore light on this?

i would imagine they all do,

just leave your windows open and lock it once, if theres some wind about, it'l sharp set your alarm off

Cheers for the reply R55VYS, but I have tried that and nothing happens. I have even tried leaving the door open a bit to see if mine squeels, but nothing!

Your car should have a CAT1 alarm fitted as standard. If you look inside on your rear 3/4 panel trim (to the side of your rear head rests) you should see 2 ultrasonic sensors?

The alarm itself is located somewhere in the boot behind some trim, Well mine is anyway

Unless your car is an import, then it may not be fitted as they are done when they come into the UK, before they go to the dealers

If you want to test it, lock the car as already mentioned, but you will need to wait about 30 seconds for the alarm to 'stabalise' (the interior lock button illumination will go off) then waggle your arm inside, you will then hear the alarm (if fitted). Its located under the o/s/r wheel arch if I remember correctly.

If you look at the spec for the Dynamique - it will say Cat 1 alarm.

However in my alarm documentation - the installer has written Cat 2!

It's always puzzled me - but there again it's a Renault so I will say no more!

Anyway - if it's a Dynamique - yes it does have an alarm.

Hi Hoody

Just realised what you said about leaving the door open a bit!

If you leave a door open the car will not lock anyway - it will just clunk!

Do the above - leave a window open, press lock button once (do not deadlock) and wait for the wind to set it off or wait about 40 seconds and wave your arm about inside. That should do the trick!

You have to wait 60 secs before the alarm arms itself.

Cat 2 is an immobiliser

If Cat 2 is an immobiliser, immobilisers are standard across the range! why would the alarm installer write cat 2 in the alarm type box???

You are of course correct "Electronic/Electromechanical I mmobiliser. Minimum requirements are anti-scan/anti-grab code resitance and passively set 2 circuit immobiliser (or coded intervention of operation relevant control unit e.g. EMS)

Well the french write their numbers strangely, and also the guy may have made a mistake

Just dug out my alarm user manual.

On the certificate of installation it reads: Dealer Name: CAT UK (Renault UK). Product description: Renault compact 7897. (However on the front of the booklet the model number is 7887!!!

Thatcham evaluation No: TC2 1247/0802.

I think reading the TC2 bit above lead me to think it was category 2, possibly it dont mean a thing!!

This still leaves me not sure if the alarm is cat 1, if you read the spec books they all say that they are, - confused as per usual!!

That is a Cat1 alarm , made by Cobra. You wouldnt get a certificate for just an immobiliser from Renault. Virtually every Renault made in the last 6-8 years has had an immobiliser as standard
