Front wiper arm/cantilever

Hello all

My sister's 03 Scenic II gace her a bit of a scare today - the driver's side wiper arm came loose on the motorway to Belfast in the pouring rain!

It turns out that one of the three nuts (the middle one) had become loose and there was no drive to the wiper.

So, I have removed all 3 nuts, put thread lock on the threads and tightened them up pretty much as hard as I could with a 16mm combination spanner. They seem to be working fine but my question is - was this the right thing to do? The other 2 nuts weren't awfully tight - are they supposed to be kinda loose?

All suggestions & thoughts gratefully received!
