Went to Scotland for week. Rented a cottage so we took everything with us, two crates of food and drink, usual luggage, cool box, breadmaker (don't ask), kitchen sink, etc. I filled up with fuel before we set off (I normally only ever drag around half a tank) and the poor car looked like it was towing an invisible caravan, and a big one at that.
Got home and still averaged 63.2mpg.
8 weeks ago I followed someones suggestion of using Millers additive in my tank and Ithink it has made a difference, smoother, quieter and last year's Scotland trip returned just under 60mpg if I remember correctly.

generally get around 64 motorway and 61 around town and surrounding roads,

Hi i have a dci 1.5 2003 92000 miles new shape standard mpg was around 50 mpg. Fitted a tunning box for econ with no adjustment on the box and at the moment i get 63.4 in town A-b roads and i have had 79.8 on a run to cornwall at 70mph. You can adjust the box for more power 2 turns and the car is nippier and feels smoother and no black smoke. but i have not turned the box up the car feels ok as is. i also use slick 50 oil makes the engine smoother

I'm currently getting 39.5mpg in my 04 1.9dci 120. although this will probably drop to aroun 35 while I'm driving round town. I was getting 65-70mpg on a trip down the m5, but it never gets near that now

I do a lot of short trip city drives.
looking at some of the other results mine seems a bit low. Is this normal?

1.5dci 100 - 90,000 mostly used in 30mph-40mph areas for short journeys less than 4-5miles and I've not reset the trip in about 2000 miles and is showing 51.2mpg.

Could be better but still seems to go up further when doing long motor way runs.

2004, 1.5dci 80, 49000. mostly motorway and a-roads, constant 70mph=77mph. not long turned to small diesel engined cars(always been a petrol head (-;). wish i had something like this years ago when fuel was less than £1 a litre, must have been great. these engines are awesome

My 1.5 DCi 100 never gets less than 60MPG. At the minute the average is saying 66.9. I drive 50% urban, 50% motorway. The car is well serviced and I drive nice and easy but not to granny levels.

My 1.6 was putting out 32 if tAken really seady at 50 on mototway and 26 round town 05 plate 70k well serviced on morrisons fuel, had 4wheel alignment done and filled it with esso fuel and now gettin 40 on motorway and 34 if I thrash it round town might be worth gettin ya tracking checked most places like kwik fit or ats will check it for free and adjust it for around 30 quid won't just increase fuel economy either it will prolong the life of your tyres so 30 quid well spent

Some sort of table against time /season i find tha typically 2mpg less in winter eg???????????????
DEBATE

In winter you will often have to use the following:-
Heater fan
Windscreen wipers
Lights
Heated rear window / mirrors.
All draw power from the engine and so increase the fuel consumption.

Also, wet weather means more traffic (people using cars for short journeys rather than walking), more accidents, which means hold ups, longer queues at traffic lights, etc.

In the summer traffic is lighter due to schools being closed for 6 weeks and people going on annual holidays.

I think all these little changes can add up and I certainly notice a 3mpg difference throughout the year.

My 1.9Dci 2004 used to get 38Mpg town driving, it has dropped to 31, on the open road doing 120km/hr(In South-Africa we do everything in km/hr) I get 53Mpg(5.3L/100km). Any idea why it's dropped like that in town. Fully serviced recently and EGR cleaned.
Only done 70000km. It smells very rich when stopped after town driving. The CLIP finds all OK I am told.

Isn't it mostly to do with driving style, i.e do you get to 100 km/h very quickly or are you a Sunday driver.

Tell me Stan, since you are in South Africa is it true you don't have Seats and Skodas?
