im thinking there is something wrong with my 1.9 120. I drive a 70mile round trip for work, about 10 miles of that is in and out of town the rest is sitting at 60mph max on motorway, a large chunk is at at 50 on a dual carrageway and im struggling to get it over 50mpg

Sounds about right to me ive only ever seen mine once above 50mpg and that was driving like a real Granmar :-(

Good idea this.

FIrst of all I've got a 2004, 1.6VVT(i) 5 speed manual petrol ... does it matter it's silver? ;) When I first got the car, I was averaging about 35mpg....

Most MPG I've seen is 53mpg, which was 50mph on the M5 for an experiment (sorry if you were stuck behind me :banghead )

For a recent 150 motorway trip I got 45mpg for the entire trip, this was with a fully laden tank and boot. I find that sticking the car at 3100rpm is the most efficient on motorways, and gives a stead 65-68mph so not much time is lost either (and doesn't sound like Concorde on takeoff too)

Finally, my work commute is a 26 mile trip through two towns on countryside and I normally average 42mpg.

All of these are greatly improved if you're prepared to accelerate verrrrry verrry gennnntttlllly. A bit boring, but look after the pennies and all that.

The difference between my initial 35mpg and my 42mpg is 7mpg, which for a 60 litre tank means I get an extra 90ish miles from the same tank.. equivalent to almost two "free" commutes....well worth it IMO.

i wouldn't worry too much ive only had mine above 50 once and that was a long run just after zeroing it so that probably helped, i find the best way is not to let it labour too much keep it in the best gear for the speed being travelled and it seems do better on fuel than trying to be in the highest gear possible stay around the 1400-2000 revs range ive found gives best performance when pottering and better fuel cons.

its gone but not forgotten lol, but the A3 has more than filled the gap on the drive woo hoo i love it

I had a 1.5dci 106bhp 3 door which average 54mpg around town. We've swapped to a 1.9dci 120bhp estate because of a growing family but now only get between 37-39mpg in town. On a motorway trip it goes up to around 45mpg. This seems low and I'm concerned it may indicate a problem. I've read one other person with a 1.9dci say the same thing in this thread but not much after that.

:cry Well you`ve all depressed me with your high mpg figures... (apart from the renault sport guys :) )

I`ve just swapped my little 1.5dci modus for the 1.9DCI 120 Megane (04).
In my little modus the best i managed was 64.5mpg on a tank.

So far i`ve filled up the megane twice. 1st tank driving normally i only got 37mpg.
Second tank, low revs, coasting down the hills and to junction, no aircon (or fans sometimes) and i only managed to get this up to 42mpg...

I do 20 miles each way to work, 3 miles country road then the rest is motorways...

Do you think somethings wrong?

That sounds about right, but give it some time, and try to change your gear at around 2200 rpm where the max torque is, might make it slightly better.

Thanks wanda, i`ll give that a go.

I was actually trying to find out where the peak power was when your replied so you`ve save me the trouble there...
my cars got the petrol instrument panel so i'd been wondering how big the rev range was and where i should be changing.. the clock just shows 0-7k all in white which isn`t very helpfull.

Hi, I'm getting 59mpg overall in my tourer with the 106 dci, It's a fabulous engine and I had it again but in a new scenic in Majorca when the more substantial body had no effect on performance except to quieten the diesel noise even more.

I'm a tad concerned for mine. I cant get above 40 MPH no matter how careful I am... I did 30 miles yesterday, average speed I think was around 40ish and I got 39MPG in return.. Then today I just had it ticking over, and watched the average MPG drop. It was counting down! It must've dropped about 1/2 MPG in the space of 3mins. Is something up here? its a 1.9 dci.
