Change Oil Soon?

Hi All

Just had "change oil soon" message come up on the display when starting the car, I'm sure I have seen this somewhere before on the forum but I can't seem to find it again.

It happened exactly as the car had covered 14,500 miles. Is it meant to show up at a pre-determined mileage? - 1st service is due at 18,000 miles so presumably it will appear for another 3,500 miles???

Confused or what?

Regards

Rob

It will be visible until it's reset now. The 'change oil soon' message appears at specific mileage intervals or after a certain period of time - whichever comes first. In your case im guessing the car is almost 2 years old?

Andy is right

it's 2 years or 18000 miles whichever is sooner. The thing is that it's 2 years from the date of manufacture not first registration. You only need to have it serviced if it's coming upto 2 years from first registration or 18000 miles.

Check this post:

Is there a difference between servicing intervals for diesels and petrols?
I had my 1.4 serviced at 10mths although it was a year from the build date.

I just surrendered and had mine serviced early when the light came on, doesnt really make much odds pay now or pay later.
One thing that I did hear today whilst in the service center that worried me though is the service staff telling a customer that the 2nd service costs 400 quid if the car is still under warranty but significantly less if its out of warranty

Am I right here?

Sitting in the Renualt service are earlier this week, YES again, I noticed/read something regarding service charges,

Upgrade to full synthetic oil, £14.95 per ltr????

WHAT

5 x £15 quid, £75 over the normal rob d***in rates??? when most of the cars are supposed to have synth as standard????
Top Q jobby is only £35 per 5 ltr

Am I wrong??

2nd service (36k) on a my dci120 tourer was £290 so not quite £400, I've just had the 3rd service (54k) and that cost £204 although they quoted £252 when I phoned to book it in, apparently 'cos mine is doing high mileage they don't have to do so much in the service, e.g. the inline fuel filter only has to be done every 36k on high milers but every 18k if you do low mileage and that saves £40. Regarding the oil, my dealer put in fully synthetic for £37.50, however when I checked the dipstick after I picked it up it was only 2/3 the way up the dipstick! After a good moan about not giving me some of the oil I had paid for I got an apology and an offer of a free aircon service.

I sympathise with you, have a quick read here:-

You will save a buck or two for sure, I couldn't find the oil cheaper anywhere else but it still pi$$ed me off.

This would make sense, at least in as far as when getting our (11 month old) Megane last month the dealer wouldn't throw in the next (2nd) service. Instead he did give me 15% off, which would equate to £60 if it really does end up costing £400. Of course I wont be falling for any "new brake disks needed" line since I don't use them much...
