Air Con - its a con!!
Hi peeps
I've already checked the previous air con thread but was wondering if anybody could help me with this one,
54 plate 1.9dCi still in warranty!! only blowing mildly cold air even when its been on for ages. I was wondering if this is covered under warranty i.e a re-gas. or are thay going to charge me the earth for this, coz if thats the case i will get my local air con agent to re-gas any ideas on price for a re-gas.
ps I hired a Twingo in the south of france last summer and it was that cold I could have almost made ice cubes in the car

There was mention of a few leaky compressors a while ago, but the only way to find this out is to have it pressure checked.
Make improvements, not excuses!

Don't bother with Renault Warranty for this one.
I had the same with my 05 Scenic last year. The dealer had the car all day, just to say "It works fine!" and show me some kind of table that shows what temperature the air coming in to the cabin should be at a given outside air temp.
I would have expected them to re-gas it at the minimum.
Going in for a re-gas at a local supermarket garage in France in the near future for a cost of about €50...

Had same issue with my old Clio.... they just switched the A/C on and put some temperature sensor in the vents.... this showed around 16C and said .... "Air Con is fine!"

Its always worth having a try at the dealers, especially if you've got some bad service to moan about - I had some problems following my last service and when I arranged for it to go back in to sort them out I mentioned that my a/c wasn't working properly too (I think it just a bit short on gas) They offered to do the a/c service free of charge to make up for the trouble (usual cost £70) so the cost to them can't be too much. Incidentally servicing the a/c isn't covered by warranty as all cars will lose gas - the molecules of the gas are actually small enough to leak through the metal of the aluminium pipes! (they are too stingy to use stainless steel) and when the gas level drops below a certain point it will stop working even if there are no faults it is quite usual for the gas to need topping up every two to three years. However, if the system is actually malfunctioning or severely leaking then that should be covered under the warranty. My dealer explained that normally you would pay for the service and if that revealed deeper issues they would fix those under warranty and refund the £70.
At the end of the day... ..it gets dark
