MPG on 1.6 vvti

Postby jpgreenwood » Thu Nov 23, 2006 9:58 pm

My 2002 1.6 Dynamique shows an average fuel consumption reading of about 32 mpg on a good day. About 27 mpg on cold mornings. Is this about the norm for all other 1.6's? Its a bit thirsty and I have all my auto lights off etc. I suppose I get approx 350 miles before the light (and loud annoying warning tone that makes me nearly crash) comes on. My old Jap import Mitsubishi 2.0 v6 used to be better on fuel.

I've had my 1.6 VVT for around 5 weeks now and it currently reads 35.9 MPG average. I've prob done the same number of miles on motorways as I have on minor town roads.

I also have been getting bad mpg for the past few months...

I have had the dephaser pulley replaced, yet my mpg remains mediocre...

Of course I mainly do city driving in heavy traffic with 1st & 2nd...

The CLIP shows no errors whatsoever, and an emissions test showed both O2 sensors working properly...

Use this converter... https://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/fuel

I get around 8-5 to 9 lt/100km (stuck in traffic), which is between 31.39 and 33.23 mpg. When travelling at around 120-140kmh I get around 6.8-7.0 lt/100km, which again translates between 40.35 and 41.54 mpg.

I get an average of 6.8 - 7.2 l/100Km (mixed conditions). that would be 39.6 - 42 mpg average. When I drive hard, it's up to 7.8l/100Km (36.5mpg)

Think it's not that bad.

I get just over 30 MPG at the moment with mostly town driving, but on a long run I can get just over 40MPG

Heavy traffic really puts the consumption up, especially with auto, but once I get out of urban I can get around 35MPG. which I think is pretty good :)

Mine is around 8.5 liter / 100km, equivalent to around 33 mpg in british system.

Not really good in my opinion, but adequate, even more that i've converted my engine to LPG (in italy gasoline taxes are insane)

That sounds really low.

I do all urban driving and get between 33 and 38mpg.

On the main roads I get between 41 and 48 mpg.

Mine is also a 52 plate 1.6vvt.

I would pester Renault and hover around the service department till someone helps you.

Our 2003 1.6 VVT had terrible fuel economy, which we found was getting gradually worse before we got rid of it.

Last long trip we did was a 180 mile motorway round-trip from Dorset to London and back (M27/M3) and managed to average just 33 MPG according to the computer. Wouldn't say we were particularly caning the car either, just driving between 60 to 80MPH most of the way. Odd thing was, when the wife was just using the car for short journeys to and from work, the MPG wasn't that much different (only slightly worse).

When we first got the car, I'm sure we used to get more than 40 MPG on the same 180 mile round-trip.

It was one of the many problems that the car was experiencing. Which is why (faced with the warranty expiring) we got rid of it :) If we had kept the car, it would have been due a service this month. Wonder how much a lack of maintance would contribute to poor fuel consumption? It would only be its second service in nearly 4 years, and I don't think they did an awful lot to it last time.

Loving our new car (performance and economy), which is a diesel and not a Renault.

"I don't know which "plate" I have, because nobody told me where I find it."

'Plate' only refers to UK cars. Its the numbers on the registration plate that show when a car was registered. It used to be letters but now they use numbers to identify the year. For example mine is a 54 plate so its late 2004, an 04 plate would be early 2004 etc.[/quote]
