Air Bag Light ON

Hi, Renault Megane Airbag faults, I have a couple of questions and wondered if anyone could help, I have a Renault Megane 1.6 VVT Coupe Cabriolet 2004 (54) plate, with only 3,400 mile on the clock, The car was a category "D" insurance loss, the car sustained reasonably light n/side damage, The car has now been fully restored, The drivers airbag/dasboard/front and rear pre-tensioners/and air bag e.c.u have all been replaced, (the parts all came from a donor vehicle, so everything was used from this car (to keep everything matched) my problem is this the donor car was a 5 door hatch and has the 2 extra pre-tensioners in the front seats (the cabriolet only has one per seat) so when the ignition was turned on for the first time after all the srs components were fitted, the air bag light is on, I understand that the whole of the srs system relies on resistance through all the components on its checks at "ignition on" could it be that the Ecu is not finding the two missing pre-tensioners? if so can it be re-programed to suit my vehicle? Secondly I sent the original E.c.u to Germany to have the crash data removed, the guy that done it reassures me that this was done and the E.c.u was ok, I put the original repaired E.c.u in the car and I have still got an air bag light on!!. Have I missed something? will it need to go to Renault to be cleared? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

take it to get it reset, if this fails then there is a fault in the system, renault should be able to tell you what component is at fault, hope this helps

It is either under the passenger seat or under the centre console that the handbrake goes through (see my post about replacing the throttle style handbrake).

In any case, I doubt it has to be removed to be reset - these things are usually the preserve of the OBD port (under the stereo). If that is not the viable route, it may need to be replaced.

Check all the wiring as mentioned before before doing anything. The clockspring (behind the steering wheel) is also a culprit. If it clicks when you move the wheel, you might have a problem...

Thanks Dave, I was told there is crash data in the air bag ecu and would have to send it off :-)

you need to reset the crash data memory. You really need to connect to the plug under the stereo, behind the plastic cover. after that, with all in place the light should go off.

good luck

I had exactly the same issue with my car too,

took it the the garage thinking it was something serious but was a wire under the passenger seat had a loose connection.

on mine under the passenger seat where all the wires meet there is a connection block, the clips on these break very easliy and this block often comes apart, simply re-connect this and should be good to go, failing that the ECU just might want clearing as once a fault is flagged up it tends to stay there until its cleared from the system.

hope this helps

matt

Hi All,

I see that I am not the only person struggling with correcting this fault.

My Megane 1.5dci has every concievable fault going, Injection check, electrical failure, head light failure, and all successfully fixed and cleared other than this one.

I've been following the feeds and have investigated the under seat option which proved to be a snapped wire on the seat belt pretentioner I replaced this with only an hours work and voila the light is still there.

I've been to the mechanic and he said it could be any number of things and could be costly to repair. I'm fairly handy with a wrench and was hoping for some sugestions on where to start.

I've read about the 'squib' fault but I haven't investigated this yet and with my MOT looming and airbag faults now being a failure I need quick solutions with shelling out £££'s at the MAIN DEALERSHIP.

Any suggestions would be amazing.

Thanks in advance.
