ABS sensor

Hi, my daughter's '06 15DCI suffering the usual ABS problems. The rings on the discs are shot as are the sensor holders on the axel. The holders are available on Ebay at an expensive £50 but cheaper than new axel. I also ordered 1 new sensor as it looked damaged. When it came, the sensor end was correct but the plug wasn't. Even though I checked the compatibility chart on the sellers page, it still was wrong. I was wondering if I could just sonder the old plug onto the new cable? My socket is 2-pin square shaped whereas most sellers stock sensors with 2-pin round. Anyone ever done this?
