Trying to find sidelight wire

Postby PhilipC » Thu Mar 12, 2020 3:15 pm

Hello all,

I've been recently adding my own footwell lights to my 2005 Megane hatchback, I would like them to come on when my sidelights are on. I know that from both front headlamps there is a blue wire to the engine bay fusebox but from there it doesn't remain blue.

Could anyone help me out to find the wire and colour of it from the interior side on the back of the clock spring? I've done multiple tests with the multimeter and can't find anything.

thanks, Phil

would it not be easier to wire new lights to the radio power supply so light come on when IGN is on, I presume new lights are going to be LEDs so the drain on the battery will be minimal...

Yes they're LEDs and with most vehicles which have footlights as standard, the footlights are light when the sidelights are turned on. This is what I'm trying to replicate. I do know other sources I can use to make them light up but I would indeed like them to wired into the sidelight wires.

Hi another suggestion, take the power supply from rear side lights, I am sure you can trace the BLUE wire back from rear light cluster to front of the car.. this will stop you messing with the firewall..all the light fuses are in the engine compartment.
Funnily enough according to the book there is no BLUE wire going to the instrument panel so i cannot tell you what wire to look for at that end apart from removing the panel and CAREFULLY trying every wire connection.
sorry i cannot be of any more help

This wire is not connected with the firewall at all?

According to the almost useful Haynes manual the wire is BLUE from front sidelights to rear sidelights, So it must come through the firewall under the glove box RH DRIVE model, this would be the best place to locate it and tap into it

hope you can see the picture
