2006 Megane dCi, headlamps are so bad I can barely see 6ft ahead, very dangerous on unlit roads! Sometimes, I'm not sure they are even switched on, honestly, that bad! I saw a post from 2011 discussing the same problem and it seems that it might be due to the 'new' headlamps that were introduced in 2006, I believe they are known as 'projector'. A lot of people said they had trouble and it was due to wait and dirt getting in. Somebody suggested simply replacing the headlight units with the pre-2006 ones which don't have the projector lens thing. This seems a good idea (specially as I have one in my garage!) but does it solve the problem? Anyone with experience of this, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks
Dom.

Re: Rubbish headlights
The old ones are crap as well. my 2005 might as well have candles on the bonnet. The fog lights help a bit, but yep - crap.

Re: Rubbish headlights
same problem here, I found out that this is due to the reflective layer in the projector housing coming off. only the bare metal remains and it does not have the same reflective capabilities as the original reflective material.
the problem is that this is basically unfixable. you just have to buy a new pair

Re: Rubbish headlights
the reflective pieces in my headlight are in perfect condition but the only 10 to 15 Ft of the road in front of car is lit up....Main beam is very good but living in a city they hardly get used...

Re: Rubbish headlights
I upgraded to h7 hid aftermarket bulbs you can definitely see in-front with these but make sure there 8000k or above then problem solved
PS i had to remove the bumper and lights to fit in also upgrade the 501 side lights to smd 501 but check before refit as they only work 1 way if 1st you fit and no light turn bulb 180 then should work

HID conversions are an MOT fail as of 2018.
