rear left indicator

Postby mctg » Wed Mar 20, 2019 10:02 am

Hi All,
Hope you get my problem (and can propose a solution) hence me not being fluent in English...

Here is what i discovered yesterday:
When i activate my rear left indicator the left break light starts to flash too, but it does it 'out of step'
compared to the indicator flash.

Any ideas of what this might be?

I'm having a Megane 2006 hatchback.

Hi,
Your problem is a bad earth connection at the light cluster.

If you remove the electrical plug that connects to the light cluster you will probably find that the contacts are showing signs of corrosion, clean the contacts up and put a smear of grease on them, replace the plug and hopefully your problem will be gone.

Cheers.

Thanks Joe,
I just checked but it looks fine to me.
Put on some WD40 multispray, but i didn't see any problem getting solved.
Another lube or what can be the case?

It's normally corrosion or a bad earth that causes the problem you have.

Check the connection on the other rear light (Right hand side)

If you haven't already try removing each bulb and make sure each one has a good earth connection, the body of the bulbs earth to the bulb holders.

Try placing a dedicated earth wire from the metal body of the car to the metal track which is the earth to each of the bulbs in the rear light cluster.

Not saying you do this but,
A lot of rear light problems are caused by operating the brake lights for an extended period at traffic lights, the heat from the bulbs can cause the bulb holders / wiring to overheat which can cause problems, so don't sit with your foot on the brake pedal for a long time, put the handbrake on and take your foot off the pedal, this also helps the driver behind you as they are not sitting there being blinded by your bright brake lights when it's dark.
