Timing belt breakage

Hi, does anybody know if the timing belt breaks on a 1.9 DCI if it takes the engine out .

do not know for sure but if in doubt CHANGE THE BELT....your not wasting money but saving your car

Obviously the belt if snapped while engine is running major damage will ensue, since the diesel engine runs on compression there is almost no gap between valves and pistons while the engine is running.....if in doubt change belt :D

Yes it will wreck the engine. The 1.9DCi is an "interference" design, which means the pistons and valves occupy the same space but at different times, ... unless the belt brakes and then they try to occupy the same space at the same time!
