Clutch Issue?

Postby q292u » Sun Sep 09, 2018 9:24 am

So yesterday, I drove from "the mighty Redcar" (don't get me started on that), to Treforrest in South Wales. Did a bit of essential shopping, and drove back. 600+ miles in all. I did this in my Mégane mk2., with NO faults or failures of any kind. Despite 4 people in the car and it being rammed to the gills with heavy stuff
EXCEPT:
The clutch slips if I try to accelerate hard especially in upper gears. Seems ok on hills in lower gears (Welsh valleys). I reckon I lost an hour each way due to the speed issue (doesn't like hills above 50).
Is this an adjustment issue?
Or how much is a replacement clutch?

P.S. I replaced 2 tyres and the wipers as a precaution. Good move. Did you see the weather yesterday?

Oh, and next time I may take a satnav. All the phones died on the way back and I had to wing it. In the dark and rain. Not recommended.

If it’s a hydraulic clutch like mine there is no adjustment.

Sounds like friction plate is worn.

Mine had same symptoms, one side had material on and other was down to the rivets

May get a few miles out of it.

Can you smell clutch whilst driving or when you stop?

No smell as far as I can tell.
It's not totally gone either, I managed to stall it this morning..

Looking like a new clutch, but I don't trust my usual bodger's to manage this one.. hence I was asking how much it should cost.

Not sure on cost, if you did it yourself prob £150for parts and fluid if you used eurocarparts online offer codes.

Must be some life left in it if it only slips with a heavy load!
