Got my jacket caught in the boot lock..

Problem with your Megane? Can't find an answer? Workshop manuals and technical notes are in here.

Got my jacket caught in the boot lock..

Postby q292u » Mon Aug 27, 2018 10:15 pm

Threw my jacket into the boot and slammed it shut.
Pressed the lock button on the remote.
Car now refuses to lock. Except the boot, which will now not open. Says "boot open" on the dash. But it isn't.
My jacket sleeve is jammed in the lock. I tried poking the white release thing on the inside of the lock, but it still won't open.

Anyone got any ideas?

I'm going to try taking the inner panel off and cut the bloody jacket out next. I now understand the John Cheese/ branch / car incident.

Hi the white thingy you talk about does open the boot lock but you need something like a long panel pin held in pliers so you can insert it in the very small hole and drag the white thing one way left or right, I can only presume your jacket has made this more difficult...cannot see you damaging the boot lock with a bit of material so once out hopefully it will work again with no warnings on dash

I can move the white plastic thingy from right to left (as in the youtube video), but the bloody door doesn't open.
It's actually the reinforced cuff of the jacket that's jammed in the lock. Pressing the button does sweet FA.
I'm thinking of removing the inner door panel to see what's actually going on, then either carefully remove the jacket, or use brute force to get it open and replace the bits with scrapyard parts as needed.

I used to enjoy this kind of thing!. For the life of me, I can't remember why..

All sorted. I managed to free the jacket from outside the car. Didn't even damage it.

Central locking working fine.
