"Electronic Fault" 2005 1.5DCI hatch

Hi all,

Im new to the game, I purchased the 2005 Megane a month or so ago for €400 for a cheap run around. Really impressed with the car so far, really confy and not a bad driving experience for the money.

Anyway, I knew the car came with a few issues which I was expecting and while trying to fix one of these issues (the rear wiper not working) all of a sudden after removing a relay in the glove box my dash displayed "ELECTRONIC FAULT" and the following issues began :
--> Hot/cold fan stopped working in the cabin
--> lights in the centre console around the fan AC etc stopped working
--> Speedo stopped working (rev counter still works)
--> Break lights stopped working (rear parkers still work)
--> Have to press the stop button 4-5 times to stop the car
--> Dip lights are always on while driving even when its light outside and I have the lights turned off

The car still drives ok and I have read up on the electronic fault where the car refuses to start and it could be an issue with the connectors / earths in the fuse box. Do you think that is my issue or is it connected to something I did in the glove box of the car?

I have tried disconnecting the battery for a few hours but problem persists.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,
as these issues have occurred since you touched the interior fuse box, you need to go back there.
The electrics on a car that old are very prone to poor contacts, even burnt out wires.
Clean all contacts for fuses/relays (one at a time) and also all connectors on the wiring, at the fuse box and interior multiplex module (BCM)
This probably wants doing at the engine fuse box also, not so easy, but check everything including the wires fed in from underneath.
Look on you tube and you'll see what to do.
Use contact cleaner and wiggle everything.
Good luck
Bob.

Thanks for the Reply Bob,

come to think of it I also did mess a bit with the main fuse box under the hood around the same time so maybe I knocked something out in there. I hope to have a bit of time to check over the weekend.

I will keep you all informed on how it goes.

Thanks :tu

I got around to taking apart the fuse box last weekend, however, I could see no sign of water ingress or corrosion of any of the connectors, I clipped them all back in thoroughly however the "Electronic Fault" warning persists on the dash.

Im not sure where to go from here, would it be worth chancing a second hand fuse box from a scrappers? or is it likely that they may suffer from the same issues?

I am going to check inside the glove box again today just to check that i have put the relay back correctly that i removed previously but I don't think that is going to be the issue.

any further ideas greatly appreciated. :tu
