Stiffy/Sticky Gear Shift

Postby dsixteen » Sat Jul 07, 2018 4:50 pm

Hi,

Yesterday, when I wanted to park my Megane II HB 2006, I struggled to shift the gear to R. Afterwards, I noticed that it has become too hard to shift at all. It was so smooth until yesterday. Can I solve this or should I take it to an engineer?

If this is something that I can't fix, is there any engineer recommandation around Exeter/Devon area? Unfortunately, I have a limited budget as I am a student.

Best regards

Hi,
sounds like the gear shift mechanism that moves the cables to the gearbox, that's what mine was.
I fitted one off ebay around £40 but not a 5 min job and not for a novice.
It has to be taken out from underneath, exhaust and heat shields removed plus battery and tray etc from above.
If you're unable to do it yourself, your best bet is to get advice from a local independent garage, use if you can, social media and friends to find one that's recommended.
In the meantime, remove the gear stick cover and try and get some wd40 down past the gear stick, it may help.
Good luck
Bob.
